Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) was created to provide residents a forum at which they can appeal issues arising from interpretations of the township's zoning ordinance.  For example, the strict interpretation of the zoning ordinance would create a hardship when applied to a specific land parcel due to the parcel's shape.  Perhaps a set back requirement prevents a reasonable use of the land.  The ZBA hears these cases and makes a determination to grant a variance to that unique parcel.  The ZBA is then very much like a court as it conducts its proceedings.  After the ZBA renders its decision and in the event the applicants is still not satisfied with the findings, the result may be appealed to the local circuit court.

The Zoning Board of Appeals meets the first Monday of the month if requested.  Due to elections or holidays, meetings may be scheduled to another date. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. at the township hall.

TYRONE TOWNSHIP
ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given of a public hearing to be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 by the Tyrone Township Zoning Board of Appeals at the Tyrone Township Hall, 10408 Center Road, Fenton, Michigan, at 7:00 p.m., to consider the following variance applications:

APPEAL NO. 1: Ref. Tyrone Township Zoning Ordinance No. 36 - Section 20.01 (Schedule of Regulations)

A variance request by Robert and Erin Busby for a 3 -foot north side yard setback variance in order to build a proposed detached garage, located at 6035 Mabley Hill Road, Fenton, Michigan 48430, Parcel ID: 4704-34-402-004.  The property is zoned LK-1, Lake Front Residential. The original detached garage was destroyed by fire and the applicant would like to rebuild in the same location.  The request must be in compliance with Section 21.02, Accessory Buildings and Structures Provisions, and Article 20, Schedule of Regulations, inclusive of setbacks, height, and sight lines.
